It’s so easy to use
Developed by Colin Hampton Associates in
partnership with NHS Lothian and NHS Argyll
and Clyde, LabelTrace software interfaces with
the patient record held on the GP system
(GPASS, Torex, Vision etc). With the click of a
button, the software will generate a set of
labels (one for each copy of the test request
form and one or more for specimen bottles).
The label tells the labs who the patient is i.e.
the Patient UPI (plus bar code), Surname,
Forename, Date of Birth and also carries
additional information important to the labs.
The labels are generated in ‘real time’ on a
Zebra LP2824 direct thermal label printer. Its
small size (15 x 10 x 20 cm) doesn’t present
any space problems in the consulting or
treatment room and its serial interface
connection ensures there is no interference
with other printers already in use. Labels can
easily be peeled off and placed on the request
forms and samples. The printers are robust
and very easy to use, working off thermal
technology i.e. no need for messy changing of
ribbons or ink cartridges.
When request forms and samples are received
at the labs they are then scanned in ensuring
the requests are carried into the system with
the correct patient details. The results are then
available and visible to the Practice.
The system can also be used for ad hoc
address labelling and similar administrative
functions.
What’s more, LabelTrace is cost effective. For
a typical investment £250 per point of request,
LabelTrace will save the practice hours of hand
written or manually typed labels every week,
paying for itself in weeks whilst improving the
accuracy and quality of Sample and Request
data
